Smoke at the Lodge – Smoke at the Lodge is the Super Bowl of Lowcountry BBQ. The Lowcountry of SC is a little pocket of BBQ goodness in the state of South Carolina BBQ. There seems to be an uncanny concentration of world class cooks that call the Lowcountry home. This contest kicks off the season for many of those cooks. The field is always strong and space is limited. Contest organizer Bob Kuziak somehow found a way to expand the team list form 20 to 24. This year was extra special. It was a qualifier for the World Food Championships in Las Vegas. What a great opportunity for the Lowcountry Teams! Daryl Mast from Barbecue Superstars was also in attendance doing a live stream and interviewing the teams. The rain subsided just in time to make a great “No Pork” night on Friday and the entertainment from the Beach Band “The Out of Towners” made it a fantastic event. This was a single category event. Pork was King on Saturday for turn in. There was a side Rib Throwdown that the SBN gladly judged. Some R Swine took top honors. This was an amazing feat as Seth and Nona Watari have won this contest.
